Photo Essay

As the seasons changed, I got to witnes the beautiful Fall weather
at the John Brown Campus this year. Something that I have
never before had the opportunity to witness.

Each day, there was a new view of the scenery.
The bright, green grass faded to a browner color every day.
The leaves turned from green to a light red, eventually fading to an orange-brown.

The trees slowly began to appear lonley as their leave all
began to fall, barely having any left on their long hollow arms.

This tree was one of the many whose leaves changed from
yellow, orange to a deep, beautiful red.

At first, it lost few leaves, barely being able to
notice that leaves were even falling.
Then, it quickly began to lose all of them in one day.

In only one day, from morning until that night,
every single leaf fell off of that amazing tree.

It was truly one of the most beautiful scenes of Fall that I have ever witnessed.
The beauty of God at work in the Fall is incredible.
It was truly a master piece.

And that was my first Fall at John Brown University.

Music? I Think (Comm. Tech Assignment)

Lil Wayne at the MTV Music Video Awards 2012

Yesterday, as I watched the 2012 Music Video Awards on MTV, I was appalled, yet not so surprised by some of the songs being sung, as well as the outfits and appearances of the musicians. Personally, as I heard Lil Wayne sing, I thought it sounded like a little kid playing with, and blowing into a microphone. In my opinion, it was not music. I know there are many people who love the artist, but I just don't think a whole lot of the guy. His appearance wasn't much better either. The bright yellow pants he had halfway on that sagged to his knees to reveal his camo looking boxers was not flattering. I just don't understand how people can enjoy his music. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to just single Lil Wayne out; he's just a popular rap artist right now and is known among pretty much everyone, whether you like his music or not. It's just shocking to me that so many people enjoy his entertainment.

 "Jesus, Friend of Sinners"

Time (Comm. Tech assignment)

Time is such a funny thing. It seems like at times, we have so much of it, putting things off until tomorrow or saying, "Oh, I'll wait until next week to do that." Other times, it seems like we don't have near enough of it. Cramming for tests, trying to be at three different places at once, having to juggle work, school, and family or friend time all in between. It's stressful and overwhelming, but it's also reassuring knowing we're blessed enough to have the time to be able to spend with our loved ones, or to get our work done successfully. It's also a painful thing though.

Pop Culture #4

"A Walk to Remember"
"Maybe God has a bigger plan for me than I had for myself. Like this journey never ends. Like you were sent to me because I'm sick. To help me through all this. You're my angel."
-Jamie from A Walk to Remember

"The Notebook"
Oh, The Notebook, one of the all time favorites of many young girls, and as I've discovered, many boys as well. I too, am a big fan of the movie. I've heard time and time again, "I want a relationship just like Noah and Allie." (The two main characters.) However, personally I myself, have never wanted their relationship. Not neccessarily that it was a bad one, but just the mere fact of the heartache the two face. From the humorous rejection Noah faces in the beginning of the story upon asking the rich, young Allie for just one date, to the end of the summer when Allie's parents drag her
far away from her beloved Noah. Not to mention the constant fighting the two endure. It seems as if they are constantly arguing throughout the movie, only to be brought back together with their passionate emotions. They are always caught up in the moment, going to screaming at each other one minute, to wrapped up in each other making up the next.

Pop Culture #2

"The Vow"
One of the newest, but most adored movies to come to life in the love story world. The touching story of a man's deep love for his wife, as he tries to bring her to falling in love with him all over after a traumatic car accident in which the woman is unable to remember her life from the time of meeting her husband to the present. The actors in this movie do a great job at their roles as they express and convey the emotion of the experiences and challenges faced throughout the movie.

In the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Paige and Leo, a young college girl who moves to the city and meets the handsome, young, charming Leo. They fall madly in love and eventually decide to get married. After reciting very memorable vows, a set that is so sweet and well known, that people spoke about them for quite some time after the movie came out. Young girls were smitten with the vows they recited to each other, even though the couple was wed by a friend in a museum, and their ceremoy cut short as they were chased out by security guards; the scene is still a romantic one and girls yearn to have a love like that.

Here is the sweet scene and the vows that they recited.

Pop Culture Assignment #1

In todays society we can find a depicition of the good side of love, as well as the bad side practically anywhere and everywhere. From People magazine discussing the hot new celebrity couples, or the heartbreaking, firey breakups, to TV sitcoms showing us the humorous side of relationships, to even the movies, where the "perfect" man or woman in society's view, is portrayed. Often times we base what our relationships should be like in reality, in comparison to love movies, or even romance books, where the brave, strong man whisks away the incredibly beautiful, yet needy woman, giving her her fairytale story. Today, it seems as if love somewhere along the lines got twisted and instead of true love leading two people together, lust is the cause.
As humans, I've noticed that many of us are hopless romantics for a good, sappy love story and wish to have the perfect relationship based off the media we're fed, however there's one book that holds the true meaning of love and what our love life should like, but often times we fail to resort to this story. This wonderful story of the greatest love to ever be known is the bible. The one source which not only shows us what genuine love should look like, but also the expectations and requirements we, along with the person/persons we date, should display. So the next question is: What does the bible say about love?

"I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

 -1 Corinthians 13
